A Legacy Built by Jim Cavill
We have hotelier Jim Cavill to thank for making the glitter strip what it is today, after launching the iconic Surfers Paradise Hotel in 1925 and rejuvenating this previously sleepy beachside town.
He made such an impression on the area, including coming up with the name Surfers Paradise, that the street of his original hotel was renamed Cavill Avenue in his honour.
The Heart of the Gold Coast
Cavill Avenue and Cavill Mall are the focal points of the Gold Coast. Lined with shops, nightclubs, bars and fast-food outlets, the street is a major tourist hub in this exciting town.
Stretches from the famous ‘Surfers Paradise’ sign next to the beach on The Esplanade, on Cavill Avenue, there is an array of restaurants, shops and nightclubs, surf art, buskers and much else.
